Trametes versicolor cares for your skin

Trametes versicolor (Turkey Tail)– a well-known medicinal mushroom, widely used both in medicine and cosmetology due to its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Recent studies have shown that polysaccharopeptides (PSP) extracted from Trametes versicolor can protect human skin from the harmful effects of free radicals and inflammatory processes, significantly improving skin condition, reducing the effects of ultraviolet radiation, and oxidative stress.

The skin is the largest organ of the body, one of its main functions being the protection of the body from harmful substances. In recent years, physical damage caused by ultraviolet radiation, air pollution, and toxic chemicals has led to an increase in free radicals in the body. Moreover, various environmental factors also lead to excessive production of reactive oxygen species (ROS), causing progressive oxidative damage and, ultimately, cell death. This is closely associated with human conditions such as skin aging, inflammation, and cancer.

In a study conducted in Taiwan and published in the "Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology" in 2019, scientists examined the effect of PSP on human skin cells (HaCaT). The results demonstrate that enzymatic hydrolysates of PSP derived from Trametes versicolor can protect human skin from oxidative stress and inflammation caused by free radicals.

Scientists recorded key improvements in skin health:

  • Increased skin cell viability.
  • Reduced skin inflammation.
  • Activation of antioxidant defense.
  • Protection against free radicals.
  • Reduced NF-κB activity (responsible for activating genes that cause inflammation).
  • Suppression of skin stress responses.

Thanks to Trametes versicolor, there was an 18% increase in cell viability, a 25% reduction in inflammation, and a 15-20% improvement in overall skin condition.

The total duration of the experiment was about 28 hours, during which the first results were observed regarding increased cell viability and reduced inflammatory processes. This shows that even in a short period in laboratory conditions, the positive effect of the extract on skin cells can be seen.

Of course, for real conditions on human skin and for a lasting effect, a longer application period is usually required. The first results appear after 2-3 weeks of use – the overall skin tone improves, and inflammation decreases.

This study demonstrates that Trametes versicolor extract is a valuable ingredient for cosmetic products, an indispensable aid in fighting the signs of aging, inflammation, and harmful environmental effects.

It should be noted that the most effective approach is always a comprehensive one: internal intake of the extract and external use of a gel with Trametes.
